Emotional Salary Barometer™ for Students and Researchers

Would you like to use the Emotional Salary Barometer™ as a tool to measure Emotional Salary in your research study?

The program we offer for researchers and universities is the following:

  • The Emotional Salary Barometer™ can be used for scientific studies for free.
  • Apart from the 10 factors that constitute the Emotional Salary (autonomy, belonging, creativity, direction, enjoyment, inspiration, mastery, professional growth, personal growth, purpose) and the importance that the individual gives to each of the factors, the tool also allows us to measure the following metrics that may be of interest to the research:
        • Nationality
        • Country of Residence
        • Age range
        • Gender
        • Number of children
        • Contractual situation: Full-time / Part-time
    • Length of service in the organization
    • Employment situation: (Employee, Self-employed or both)
    • Job group in the organization (if relevant): Senior management, Manager , etc )

Prior to the research taking place, a confidentiality and collaboration agreement must be signed between the researchers and Live Your Brand (LYB).

The process for using the Emotional Salary Barometer™ as a tool to measure Emotional Salary in a research study

Once the agreement is signed, the process is the following:

  • The researchers inform us about the number of participants included in the study. We then give an access code for those participants.
  • The individuals participating in the study receive a very general and brief report of their Emotional Salary with the possibility of purchasing the Emotional Salary Barometer™ (personally) and receiving at that stage a detailed report of their Emotional Salary as well as a personalized action plan.
  • We will provide the researchers with information about the original study on which the creation of the Emotional Salary Barometer™ was based. This information will be treated as confidential information and will be included in the scope of the confidentiality and collaboration agreement.
  • We will provide the researchers with the items that belong to each factor as well as the reliability values and validity described in the original scientific study on which the creation of the Barometer was based. This information will be treated as Confidential Information and will be included in the Agreement.
  • We will provide the researchers with the raw data produced from their study sample.
  • The researchers will share the results of their study to LYB and mention their collaboration in any publications that are made in this regard.
  • Researchers will not have to pay anything for using the Emotional Salary Barometer™ in the sample to be used.
  • Researchers must inform us of the period in which the study will be carried out and the Emotional Wage Barometer™ will be used.

Publishing the results of your study

    • The results of the study may be published on the university’s or the Researcher(s) website and on the LYB websites. They must not be published on any other website without prior consent.
    • The results of the study can also be published on the Social Networks in which the Emotional Salary Barometer™ is active.
    • The results of the study will explicitly state that the Emotional Salary Barometer™ has provided all facilities free of charge for the study to be carried out successfully.
    • Both the Emotional Salary Barometer™ and the researchers will be able to use the Research study results to facilitate workshops without having to pay a fee to use the study results.

Our Research

Our research has been broad and extensive. Nevertheless, we can pinpoint three main scientific theories that are relevant for our tool and our research and gave us the context that supports the benefits that could be derived from using such a tool like the ESB. These theories are:

Hedonistic Adaptation

The Theory of Hedonistic Adaptation (the observed tendency of humans to quickly return to a relative stable emotional level of happiness despite major positive or negative events or life changes). After a repeated exposure to the same emotion-producing stimulus, we tend to experience less of the emotion. To put it more simply, we get used to the good things that happens to us. While Hedonistic adaptation gives unparalleled resiliency and keeps us always in the search for greater things, it also kills our marriage or our jobs. We stop seeing everything that is positive and start complaining. It is therefore, a psychological imperative to fight hedonistic adaptation if we want to maximize our well-being and the possibilities of our jobs.

Cognitive Bias

The Theory of Cognitive Bias and Narrative Fallacies (Daniel Kahneman – Thinking Fast and Slow). We are far less rational and far less correct in our thinking, judgements and perceptions than we’d like to think or give ourselves credit for. We all suffer from  cognitive bias. Cognitive bias is a limitation in objective thinking that is caused by the tendency for the human brain to perceive information through a filter of personal experience and preferences. We humans constantly fool ourselves by constructing flimsy stories and believe they are true. We tend to exaggerate the consistency of our evaluations, good  and bad. Most of the stories we tell ourselves about our work are largely illusory.  To think clearly about the future, we need to clean up the language that we use in labelling the beliefs we had in the past. And we believe that the ESB is an excellent tool to do exactly that.

Positive Psychology

The vast research and studies in positive psychology that support the theory that when we are aware of what we have we create further success in all aspects of our lives (well being, relationships, optimism, physical and mental health, self-control, etc.). Taking this into account, research also suggests that when we recognize everything that we have we prevent the perceived loss of value of what we have. In fact, when we do an exercise and take the time to consider what we have, we are re-valuing what we have and new possibilities arise in us that lead to greater satisfaction and thus greater success.
